Why is National Cancer Survivor’s Month Important?
Every June we celebrate National Cancer Survivor’s Month, which is for celebrating life and encouraging those battling cancer. The first Sunday of June is the most important day of the celebratory month because it is National Cancer Survivor’s Day. Both the day and month are meant to celebrate, inspire, support, and foster outreach. According to the National Cancer Survivor’s Day Foundation, “it is a CELEBRATION for those who have survived, an INSPIRATION for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of SUPPORT for families, and an OUTREACH to the community”.
Being A Survivor
We find it important to discuss what it means to be a survivor. To be a survivor is to cope with difficulties in life. Although we all cope in different ways, we can all still be considered survivors. Some people decide to use their diagnosis date as the day they became a survivor, while others use the last day of treatments as their survivorship date. Several of those in treatment prefer to be called thrives, while some that are stage 4 refer to themself as lifers, as they will be on treatment for life. No matter the name or date, there’s strength and triumph in being a survivor. We want to know, what do you prefer and why?Β Share your story below!

Hi,
I have recently moved to Harker Heights, Texas.
I am a breast cancer survivor. I have been looking for a support group for survivors and a way to volunteer.
